Explain the Importance of Ensuring that Others are Aware of Own Whereabouts
It is a care worker’s utmost duty to ensure that the individuals in their care are well aware of their surroundings. Sometimes a person in your care is amnesic and cannot recall memories of everything. In such a condition, it is my role to support them and let them know that they are in a safe setting. This way, the person feels secure and protected, leading to a healthy environment and a friendly bond between the employer and the employee.
Communication and Personal Safety
As a worker, you can strive towards a better condition for the individual in your care once you make them feel safe. Communication is the key here. In today’s fast-paced life, keeping up with everything can be challenging. Your role as a social care worker is to provide high-quality assistance in a controlled setting of care.
Relevance in Various Contexts
Security threats are not limited to health and social care settings. You have to let others know of their own whereabouts everywhere, whether they are at home, school, or the workplace. It is crucial for employees as well; it does not matter if they are employed at a care home or somewhere else.
Practical Conditions Where Making Others Aware of Their Own Whereabouts is Essential
I must have a keen eye for observation when it comes to keeping individuals safe and secure. The idea is to keep an eye on those who keep forgetting about where they are. Some patients are diagnosed with special mental conditions. If they are facing problems in recognizing where they are, then it is my job to make sure to let them know of their whereabouts.
Do not let your guard down. While learning about the whereabouts helps, it is important to remember that these patients need extra care. Handling them can be challenging, and it is your primary responsibility to give them care according to the procedure in your workbook log.
Outdoor Activities
When you are aware of your whereabouts, your mind is relaxed. An amnesic patient might never be relaxed since they keep forgetting. They might not forget the controlled setting of indoor activities, but the moment they are taken out in the very centre, they may feel like they are in a different place. This can lead to a series of unwanted situations.
If you notice a setback in their behaviour which goes beyond your control, then you can report them to your manager. Not as a complaint, but as a necessary piece of information that they need professional help.
Clear Routines
What is your role as a careworker to help such a person? You can establish clear routines. This helps them to keep track of their whereabouts, and they feel safe once they act on a given schedule. Not having clear routines is leaving them on their own, which is inappropriate for a care centre. Make sure that their personal belongings are always with them, so they may not forget where they are.
Methods and Tools to Identify Whereabouts
We know that Unit 8, health and social security, has a supreme focus on patients’ whereabouts. Luckily, we now have modern tools and methods of communication, tracking patients easily so they are not lost or do not feel lost.
GPS Trackers and Mobile Applications
Nowadays, when the tech is fast, reliable, and relevant, there is no reason why your patient should be anxious about their presence or absence. If possible, let them know of GPS and mobile apps so they can learn that they are not abandoned even when their carer does not show up on time.
Schedules and Check-in Protocols
There is a reason why scheduling is mandatory in care settings. It keeps a good hold on checks and balances in the sector. It makes sure that you never let your guard down. These constant and regular updates keep everyone informed and play a vital role in the safety and well-being of employers, employees, and patients.
Conventional Methods
If a patient is not comfortable with any of the above tools or methods, then we do have some traditional techniques. Logs, notes, and phone calls are not anything new. Many of the old patients would likely be comfortable with these methods. It is an effective way to keep those in the loop who, for some reason, cannot keep up with other methods.
All of these instructions, advice, suggestions, and recommendations must be implemented well for the sake of workers and patients alike. No matter the level of diploma or unit discussed in it, the regulation of these things with immediate effect is what will bear good results.
Care Centres Where Patients Do Not Know of Their Own Whereabouts
Care centres where patients are not well aware of their whereabouts will always be suspicious in everyone’s eyes. Some might alert officials about your care centre. For the guaranteed security of the employees and patients, it is important to establish the advised techniques so employers can protect themselves and the company.
Even though many care centres do take these things seriously, there is no lack of places where such things are not established. The worst part is that nobody holds them accountable when such a misadventure takes place. If your care centre is such a place, then it is time to make some revolutionary decisions before your workplace gets shut down.
