Unit 8-1-3 Analyse The Main Health And Safety Responsibilities Of Self, The Employer Or Manager, And Others In The Work Setting

1.3 Analyse The Main Health And Safety Responsibilities Of Self, The Employer Or Manager

The three main bodies with safety and health responsibilities in the healthcare settings are the self, the manager, and the employer.

Safety and Health Responsibilities of Self

Self has a list of health and safety responsibilities in care settings that ensures they take care of their own and others at work. This means taking enough care of oneself to ensure that they are not vulnerable to hazards. It involves avoiding damage to health at work and not doing anything non-work related that could put them at risk.

Safety and Health Responsibilities of Manager or Employer

A manager or employer is expected to take reasonable steps relating to health and safety training. This helps you adhere to health and safety policies and procedures.

To achieve this, a manager or employer must:

  • Provide you with personal protective equipment and guide you on risk assessment.
  • Offer facilities that enable everyone at work to take reasonable care.
  • Ensure that the workplace is in a good condition. This means that the workplace should be safe from hazards, have apt equipment, and be in good condition.
  • Clarify that all workers are trained well for their jobs.
  • Allow access to health and social care systems, considering the physical knowledge, skills, and abilities of those involved.

Safety and Health Responsibilities of Others

Others in the work setting must build a safe work environment to ensure health and safety at work.

This involves the responsibility to handle information in care settings properly. This way health and safety practices can be maintained well. This helps members, visitors, and other employees avoid public risk.

There should be reasonable care to ensure the hazards in the work setting are removed to make the safety and welfare of the place possible.

Any other party new to the workplace is also responsible for the safety of others. Therefore, they should follow procedures that everyone else in the setting is following as well. These practices include rules and regulations, appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain health and safety procedures.
