Toggle1.2 Evaluate The Use of Care Plans In Applying Person-centred Values
Person-centred values mean that a person who is on the receiving end of the care feels in control and comfortable about the care. The proper implementation of care plans can achieve this. It further permits the cared person to express their treatment goals and what they want to say about their care.
Care plans in applying person-centred values ensure that the healthcare team members must be aware of the patient’s needs, wishes, and preferences. This way everyone can move together towards personalized and effective care and support. In simple words, care plans offer a framework for making person-centred values practical.
Care plans were developed at Kansai University of Welfare Sciences in the 1970s. The whole purpose of these care plans was to develop approaches in care settings where patients could have a say in their care. There have been agreed ways of working between person-centred approaches and leading experts ever since then to develop suitable personalized care.
Care plans may seem like plans that favour the needs of the cared person over that of a healthcare worker. The reality is that they can be practical for everyone involved as they:
- Allow everyone to convey their needs, preferences, and goals for care, which means that the healthcare team members would know of the person-centred approaches in care settings.
- Enable others to take active roles in their care as it can promote independence and empowerment.
One of the major setbacks of care plans is that they require effort and time from healthcare workers. This means that the healthcare staff may be reluctant to maintain this quality of care if they feel under pressure or overstretched.
1.2 Evaluate The Use of Care Plans In Applying Person-centred Values
Care plans are a fine way of offering person-centred care practically. Nurses and the rest of the healthcare staff must ensure that they have support and time to use the care plan well.
The quality of life in social care settings can be improved thanks to such care and support plans. Every care provider should be aware of the needs and preferences of the people they are caring for. After all, this is what the Level 3 Diploma in Care (RQF) is all about.
